Edward David Douglas, 71, a lifetime resident of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away February 20, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born to the late Edward and Teresa (Germond) Douglas on August 19, 1944. Edward attended Our Lady of Lourdes High School, where he was the first graduating class in 1962. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in English at Marist College. Edward was an English teacher at Highland High School for over 40 years, much loved by his students who dedicated the year book to him on several occasions.

  Edward enjoyed vacationing in Lake George, NY and Winter Haven, Fl., golfing, boating and playing card games.

  He is survived by two paternal aunts; Helen Ward and Maggie Smith, first cousins; Linda DeGrandis, Alice Dunagan and William Davidson,  along with numerous other loving cousins, former students and grateful friends. He was a devout member of AA for over 25 years, and was a mentor to many people; positively changing their lives.

  Edward is pre-deceased by paternal aunts and uncles, maternal aunts and uncles and first cousin; Joseph C. Davidson Jr. “He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts!”

  A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Poughkeepsie, NY on Saturday, March 19th at 10:30am. Inurnment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY. Donations to be made in memory of Edward to the American Lung Association.

My sincerest condolences to Ed's family and close friends. He was one of my favorite teachers at HHS (~1975). A truly memorable man.

SO VERY SAD TO READ OF BUTCHIE'S DEATH..FUNNY, YOU THINK YOUR OLD FRIENDS JUST GO ON FOREVER...HAVE NOT SEEN HIM IN OVER 20 YEARS. THERE IS NOW NO ONE LEFT TO HAVE A CLUE WHEN I SPEAK OF DAVIES PLACE... BUTCH WAS MY FIRST BEST FRIEND..WE WERE ONLY CHILDREN, GREW UP ON DAVIES PLACE,..HIS FAMILY HOME DOES NOT EXIST ANY LONGER..EXCEPT IN MY HEART... ST PETER'S , SISTER CONSULATA..SISTER EDITH....ONE DAY , BUTCHIE DECIDED HE WANTED TO GO DOWN TO THE RIVER...WE WERE 5 YEARS OLD...WHEN I COULD NOT PERSUADE HIM NOT TO GO..I FOLLOWED AFTER HIM ( HE WAS MY FRIEND..I GUESS YOU HAD TO BE THERE... ) AFTER WATCHING MEN CATCHING CATFISH..I REMEMBER THE WHISKERS TO THIS DAY!! , BUTCH AGREED THAT WE SHOULD GO HOME..SUN SETTING , WE WALKED UP THE HILL...( NEVER REALIZING OUR FAMILIES WOULD BE INSANE WITH WORRY! )...WHEN WHO DID I SEE , BUT MY BELOVED UNCLE BOB BEVERLAND.., THAT FIGURED OUT WHERE 5 YEAR OLDS WOULD GO...HE WAS CALM AND LOVING AND TOOK US HOME.. ..THAT IS MY FAVORITE MEMORY OF BUTCHIE AND I ..
UNFORTUNATELY, NO ONE CAN EVER REMINISCE WITH ME LIKE BUTCH..MY HEART WILL BE FOREVER BROKEN...AGAIN..YOU HAD TO BE THERE TO KNOW HOW DEEP THE BONDS OF THE FAMILIES ON THAT BLOCK WERE.
