Laverne A. Ennist, 75, a resident of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away at home on October 23, 2018 in the presence of her loving son. She was born in Potecasi, N.C. on November 23, 1942 to the late D.W. and Annie Mae (Bradley) Walden.
She moved to New York in 1954. She was educated in the Poughkeepsie City School District and received her beautician license from Wilford Beauty School in New York City. In 1963, Laverne married her beloved husband; Donald E. Ennist who predeceased her.
Mrs. Ennist was employed by Hudson River Psychiatric Center as a Therapy Aide until her retirement in 1980. She also cared for many young children in her home post retirement. Well known for speaking what was on her mind and “shooting straight from the hip”, she enjoyed cooking, solving crossword puzzles and was an avid dog lover.
Left to cherish her fond memories, are a son; Jeremy Ennist Sr. and significant other Elizabeth of Poughkeepsie, NY, a grandchild; Jeremy Ennist Jr. of Bronx, NY, one great-grandchild; Jeremy Ennist III, sisters; Jean Miller and Joyce White and husband Nate, a brother; Elton Walden, a “special daughter”; Sheila Ennist and husband Barnett Waldo all of Poughkeepsie, NY and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved and adored equally.
Visitation is 10-11AM, Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Beulah Baptist Church, 92 Catharine St, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 with a Funeral Service beginning at 11AM.Entombment to follow in the Poughkeepsie Rural Community Mausoleum.
