Bessie Mary Helen Duzon

  Bessie Mary Helen Duzon, age 65, of Beacon, NY, passed away on January 2, 2024. She was born January 12, 1958 to Ceferino T. Duzon and Mary Davis Duzon, the 11 th child of 15 children from this union. She grew up in Harlem, New York City, where she lived for many years in the Polo Grounds. Bessie was baptized and raised Catholic and converted to Buddhism later in life. She respected all religions and shared her kindness.and generosity with all. In her youth, Bessie was a respected basketball player on the many basketball courts of the Polo Grounds and was a martial arts enthusiast. Bessie was a graduate of Julia Richmond High School and matriculated as a freshman at Pace University, but postponed her studies to pursue job opportunities. For many years, Bessie worked for the Metro Transit Authority of New York City and retired from public service in 2019. She was an active member of her union, TWU Local 100. Bessie was very generous and donated to various charities on a consistent basis. She was a legal guardian and advocate for her brothers. Bessie loved adventure and travel, having visited the Philippines, Hawaii, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky. She aspired to see the world, spend time with family and friends and enjoy new and exciting experiences.  Bessie is survived by her sisters Elisabeth Frazier, Dr. Patricia Duzon, Anna Duzon, Mary Duzon, Bernadette Duzon-Pickett, Veronica Duzon, Esquire, and Loretta Duzon; brothers James Duzon and John Duzon, and brother-in-law Edward Arias; nieces and nephews Eric Turner, Adriane Turner, Michael Turner, Waayl Shahid, Kahlil Bess, Ramadan Muhammad, Aneesah Ball, Sophia Mason, Brian Pickett, Brendon Pickett, Naomi Pickett, Leroy Williams, Alana Winbush, and Nigel Arias; many great-nieces and great-nephews; a great-great-nephew; and many cousins, coworkers, and friends. Bessie is predeceased by her parents and siblings Ceferino Duzon Jr., Carl Duzon, Robert Duzon, Camilla Turner, and Aneesah Muhammad (Theresa Williams).   A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday January 20, 2024, from 1pm to 3pm at the Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home, Inc.  39 So Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.  (845) 452-1840.  Going home Services will begin at 2pm.  Burial is private and at the convenience of the family.
