IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Angela
Newman
August 14, 1955 – March 23, 2023
Angela Pearl Newman was born on August 14, 1955, to the late George W. Smith and Rosalie Smith in Mount Vernon, New York. She made her transition and entered the pearly gates eternal rest, on March 23, 2023.
Angela, affectionately known as "Big Ang", was raised in the Bronx, NY. She'd let you know that's where she began to make her mark. In her words, "From 241st Street on down chile, okay!" She was a graduate of Evander Child's High School. Afterwards, she went on to attend the Wilfred Beauty Academy for cosmetology. Angela was known for getting down in the kitchen. She had a sense of fashion, loved a good time, and could tell a story. But through it all, she was centered and grounded in the Word of God!
Angela relocated with her family and moved to Poughkeepsie, NY in 1991. She was a dedicated mother to her children, first and foremost. She cherished her grandkids and embraced every moment with them. She treated her nieces and nephews as if she birthed them herself. She was a confidant to her siblings, through the ups and downs. She was a loyal friend to those fortunate enough to have her in their corner. She had an extension of bonus kids, as she was "Ma" to everyone. Angela had such a huge heart, that her love for people was without limit. One thing for certain, Angela would never leave anyone hungry or without a roof over their head. Angela was everything! Just don't try and pull a fast one, or her mouth would give you a fierce, but calm lashing. To say she have touched our lives tremendously is an understatement.
Angela leaves her legacy behind in her only daughter, April Smith-Jackson (Daniel); sons Everton Smith (NaTara), Alonzo Newman, and Isaiah Newman (Thiresa) all of Poughkeepsie, NY; brothers Richard Hargrove (Edna) of Yonkers, NY Ronald Smith (Karen) of Poughkeepsie, NY; and sister Linda Smith of Tucson Arizona grandkids; Ez'aiyahah McPhee, Jalasia Weldon. D'Andre Smith,, Akili Hill Jr. ,Ezakyle Smith, Ja-ki Jackson, Da'Jaiea Newman, Mi-Rose Smith, Everton Smith Jr, Ishani Newman, Alonzo Newman Jr, and Angelo Newman all of Poughkeepsie, NY; great grandkids; D'Yari Smith and Akili Hill III..as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Corlisa Smith and grandchildren Quraan Smith and Jah-Lisa Smith.
When a powerful woman departs from this world, her beautiful memories remain. Her wonderful contribution embraced, her colorful name celebrated, by those whose lives she changed. When a powerful woman departs from this world, no one can dispute that she made her mark. We may have lost the center gem of our family crown, but your enduring love will live on in all of us. Rest on Queen.
