Bertha Mae Edgerton, 88, a resident of Poughkeepsie, died in the arms of the Lord on Sunday, September 24, 2017 in the comfort of her home.

Born on December 28, 1928 in Pleasant Valley, NY, Bertha was the daughter of William and Mary Palmer Holman. She attended Salt Point and Millbrook Schools.

Bertha was a Presser for many years in Newark, NJ. She worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie for 11 years, retiring in 1990. She also worked for the Poughkeepsie City School District at the Middle School in the Maintenance Department and for the City of Poughkeepsie as a School Crossing Guard, on the corner of Mansion and Bement, for many years where she kept the students and motorist in line and safe.

Bertha was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Poughkeepsie.

On December 20, 1969 she married Temer Edgerton in East Orange, NJ; he predeceased her in October 1990.

After retirement her morning ritual was her daily devotion of reading scriptures and prayer, and then listening to radio DJ Mark Bolger on Mix 97.7 FM to get in her morning exercise.

Bertha enjoyed fun time with family and friends. She was always the life of the party.

She leaves to mourn with fond memories her sister Evelyn Spencer of LaGrange and her special great-niece Denacca Johnson of Poughkeepsie. Two daughters-in-law , Roslyn Edgerton of Newark, NJ and Patricia Edgerton of Alpharetta, GA. Several nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends and good neighbors.

In addition to her parents and husband she was also predeceased by four brothers, Eugene, William, Donald and James Holman and four sisters, Margaret Hancock, Mary Johnson, Dorothy Lee and Anna Oates.

Thanks to the staff of Hospice of Poughkeepsie and the Office of the Aging for all of your care during her transition.

Special thanks to all of her personal caregivers; Kim Holman, James Holman, Barbara Freeman, Chiffon Holman, Tyrone Davis, Monique Owino and William Holman for the care and love shown to her during her last days of comfort. It was greatly appreciated by her.
