Bertha Mae Wise (nee Deyo) was born on January 6, 1932 in Bronx, NY. She passed away at age 91, on December 23, 2023 (3:22 a.m.) in a Poughkeepsie Hospice facility with family members at her bedside .When she was 5 years old, she moved to Poughkeepsie, New York, where she went to school, and raised her. Family and where she lived the majority of her life. She had intense love for her children (and a nephew she counted as one of them), and for all her grandchildren. Bertha is perhaps best known for her. Saying, "I'm going to go as long as I can, while I can," whenever questioned about her health. She had very quick-wit, sharp math skills and strong empathy. Bertha was predeceased by her friend and 40+ years partner, Richard Swan, Sr., and by 4 of her children, Ronnie, Larry, Anthony, and Rita; by her brothers Gilbert, Edward (Jr.) Frederick and William; also, by her parents, Edward (Sr.) and Bertha. She is survived by her sister Shirley Deyo and her children Anita, Donald, Wayne, Shirley (Thomas), Carmen, Tina, Richard (Christine), Randy (Kisha), Jerome (Gaviana) and Ann (Frank); also, by nieces and nephews as well as by her many grand and great grandchildren.
