Obituary

David Sobotko, a beloved father, husband, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend passed away on February 24, 2025 at the age of 63. The world is dimmer without his warmth, humor, love, and smile.

David was born and raised in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, and held many fond memories of his Brooklyn childhood. He spent his summers at his "home away from home," Camp Kinder Ring in Hopewell Junction, NY – a place that greatly influenced him and remained with him throughout his life.

David graduated from Sheepshead Bay High School before receiving a bachelor's degree from the University of Albany and an MBA from Pace University. He then started his first (and essentially last) job at RH Donnelly. Beginning in sales and transitioning to marketing, David rose through the ranks over the course of his 32-year tenure, with diligence, personability and commitment.

But his ultimate commitment was to his family. He married his wife, Noreen Sobotko (nee Fleming) in 1990 after more than a decade of friendship that first began at the University of Albany. The couple had two children, Jeffrey and Brian, who they raised in Poughkeepsie, NY.

In Poughkeepsie, he made a home for his boys and showed them what it meant to be a committed husband and father through good times and bad. He was fiercely committed to caring for Noreen through her battle with cancer and always taking care of his boys in the days and years after she passed away in 2006.

Anyone who walked through the doors of his home was his family. Everyone was welcome over to share a laugh, a meal, or a spot on the couch to watch whatever game was on — especially the Yankees, who were a constant source of joy, discussion, and sometimes frustration. Once someone came to his home one time, they were in his mind forever, and he would constantly check in to see how his "buddies" were doing.

David will be dearly missed by his loved ones, including his sons Jeffrey (Olivia) and Brian (Emily), his brother Ira, sister Katrina (Steven), brother-in-law Jim (Lisa), sister-in-law Cathy, nephews Ryan Weir and Will Fleming, niece Kate Fleming, the Cohens, Barrs, Posners, and countless other friends who he considered family. He was preceded in death by his wife Noreen, and his parents Phil and Shirley.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in honor of David and Noreen Sobotko to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
