Obituary

David Allen Van Tassell, 66 Town of Clinton, NY passed away on Saturday October 3, 2006, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY with his loving family by his side. Born on February 24, 1960, in Poughkeepsie, NY he was the son of the late James Van Tassell and Grace Newkirk. David graduated Arlington Highschool and was employed by Bottini Fuel until his retirement in 2004. On August 17, 1985, in Hyde Park, NY he married the love of his life Jean Gilmore and together they spent 41 years together, she survives at home. David enjoyed working on old cars and attending car shows. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his dogs Walter and Maui. You could find Davie always helping others and never expecting anything in return. Most of all he loved cooking for his wife Jean and spending time with her.  Besides his wife Jean, he is survived by his children Marie Phillips and husband Michael; Jillian Troue and husband Howie; Carrie Mason and husband Peter and Gene Van Tassell; his brother James Van Tassell and sisters Linda Little and husband Colin and Gina Orton; grandchildren Michael Phillips Jr; David Troue, Ryan Phillips, Bentley Troue, Abigail Phillips, Thomas Mason and Caitlin Mason; sister-in-law’s Joyce Gilmore from Hyde Park, and Sally Woods of North Carolina, several nieces, nephews, and an abundance of close friends. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his stepfather Gene Orton, sister-in-law Susan Burkhardt, mother-in-law Lillian Gilmore and father-in-law Theron Gilmore.  A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday October 10, 2026, from 1pm to 3pm at the Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home Inc. 39 South Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. (845) 452-1840. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
