Dustin Higgs, a devoted son, father, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend to many was taken from us on Saturday January 16, 2021.  Dustin was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on March 10, 1972 to Marilyn Bennett and Alphonso Higgs, both of whom predeceased him.  Dustin attended City of Poughkeepsie Elementary School and Hyde Park Middle and High Schools. Dustin played many sports, but was most proficient at baseball, a sport he loved and followed closely.

In spite of the circumstances surrounding his death, Dustin's energy will live on in all of us. Among his many words of wisdom were: Be a person of your word! Tell the truth ALWAYS, and always do what's RIGHT and not what feels good!

Dustin is survived by many family members, all of whom loved and adored him.  He leaves behind a son, Da'Quan Darby (Washington, DC), daughter Tierra Darby (Maryland), sister Alexa Cave Wingate (Georgia), brothers Alphonso and James Higgs (Poughkeepsie), cousins/brothers Craig & Mike McKinnon (Texas), Gordon & Gerard McKinnon (New York), uncle Richard (Linda) Bennett, aunt Lucia Bennett (Poughkeepsie) and uncle Stanley Bennett (New Jersey) as well as many nieces and nephews.  Dustin had many cousins he was close to and asked that they be mentioned – Lori Bennett Guerriero (Dexter, NY), Lettina Cave (Georgia) & Katisha Webb (Florida).  Dustin will also be missed by – as he stated – the LOVE of his life, Enidsia Darby (Maryland).

In addition to his parents, Dustin was predeceased by several aunts and uncles including Constance McKinnon, Nancy Riley, Mildred and Bette Ann Bennett, Ray, Ronald, and William Bennett.

We will always hold Dustin (Sharif) in our hearts as we strive to continue his legacy of LIGHT, LOVE AND HONOR.

Verily we belong to ALLAH and truly to HIM shall we return.

A walk-thru will be held on Friday January 29, 2021 from 11am to 12pm at the Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home Inc.  39 So. Hamilton St. Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. (845)452-1840.  Interment will proceed directly after at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.  Face masks and social distancing are required.
