Elmer Merlyn Thurston Jr. was born on October 24, 1935 to the union of Elmer M. Thurston, Sr. and Minerva Ann Toles Thurston Hopkins.  Elmer was a lifelong member of Poughkeepsie, NY. As a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, he Married Estelle Thurston 1959. Elmer was employed by Shatz Federal bearing, IBM, Vassar Hospital and Eden Park.  Elmer was a member of Ebenezer Baptist church and served on the Usher board. He was also a member of the Mardi Bob Bowling league.

Elmer Thurston Departed this life on Monday August 16th.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer M. Thurston Sr. and Minerva Ann Toles Thurston Hopkins and his wife Estelle Thurston.

Left to cherish his memory are his son Bruce Allen Thurston (Millie), sisters Tempi Hopkins, Joanne Williams, Angie Chisolm, Barbara Chisolm and brother Dennis Chisolm, grandson Deshawn Porter, god sister Kym Harvard and host of nieces and nephews.
