Ernestine Brown, 72, of Clinton Corners NY., and a former resident of 13 Morgan Ave Poughkeepsie NY, entered into eternal rest on April 26, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was born in Whitakers, NC on December 16, 1945 to the late Jerry Pittman Sr. and Alberta Williams. Ernestine was the owner of Brown's Market on Winnikee Avenue in the City of Poughkeepsie. She was also the owner of Motown Records on Main St. in Poughkeepsie NY, partnered with her husband, Roy Brown & her brother Moses Pittman. In the early 1980's, Ernestine went on to be head of custodial at Vassar College. After retiring from there, Ernestine went to work for Fishkill Home Health Care, now known as Elant. She was a direct adult care provider for the agency for 25 years, retiring in 2016. Ernestine married the Late Roy Lee Brown Jr in the early 1960's in the City of Poughkeepsie. She divorced in 2012.

She leaves to mourn three Sisters; Vera Harvey of Poughkeepsie, NY, Anna May Harvey, Clarine Battle, both of NC, her brother Moses Pittman of Verbank, NY, and a very special, beloved niece, Sarah Lions, sons; Tony Brown and Reggie Brown of Pittsfield, MA, one daughter-in-law, Maggie Brown of Pittsfield MA, daughters; Beverly Brown of Poughkeepsie NY, Michelle Brown (Paul) of Pleasant Valley NY, son in-law Kwesi Paul, special friends of the family; Heather Reinhold, Dwight Morgan and Sarah Faison, grandchildren; Shakira Freeman, Lawrence brown and Justin Ledgister, all of Poughkeepsie, NY,  Latasia Nelson, Kwesi Paul Jr, all of Clinton Corners NY, Chelsea Brown, Jasmine Brown and Daria Brown, all of Pittsfield MA, granddaughter-in-law, Tamara Sprow Ledgister of Atlanta GA,  Zachary Brown, Anthony Reinhold and Eric Reinhold, all of Pittsfield MA, great-grandchildren; Juelz Ledgister and Tamia  Ledgister of Atlanta, GA, and Faith Sawyer and Taras Jefferson Jr. of Pittsfield MA, three adopted grandkids; Aaliyah, Jahid and Daquan Faison of Poughkeepsie NY, special friends she loved with all her heart; Ruby Jean Corn, Stephanie Barnes, Roderick Barnes, Michelle Williams and Jean Daniels, and a host of nieces and nephews in North Carolina and Dutchess County.

Ernestine is predeceased by her brothers; Barry Pittman, Jerry Pittman Jr., Ernest Cutchin, and Hoobie Cutchin.

A going away service will be held Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home. 39 S. Hamilton St. Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. 845-452-1840.
