Obituary

Fannie Lee Jones was born on June 1, 1942, in Elizabethtown, Bladen County, North Carolina to the late Dorothy Murphy. On September 8, 2026, at the age of 84, Fannie peacefully transitioned from this earthly life. Fannie was a woman with a strong spirit, a loving heart, and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved listening to soul music, dancing, laughing, and sharing jokes with eh people around her. Her joyful personality could brighten any room. One of her favorite sayings was, “Drop it like it’s hot – and she can pick it back up!” That saying reflected the lively, humorous, and unforgettable woman she was. Although Fannie did not have biological children of her own, she became a devoted mother through love. Following the passing of her sister, Alberta Dixon, Fannie opened her heart and home to Alberta’s four children: Jackie, Alan, Jessica, and Nanette Dixon. Jackie was only four years old when Fannie accepted guardianship of the children and lovingly raised them as her own. To Jackie, Fannie was never simply an aunt, she was her mother in every way that truly mattered. Fannie’s greatest gift was not something material. Her gift was the unconditional love, protection, guidance, and devotion she gave throughout her life. Jackie remained faithfully by her side from the beginning until the very end. Fannie was preceded in death by er loved ones: Alberta Dixon, Mimi Ann Dixon, Roosevelt “sonnyboy” Dixon, and Roger Earl “Bobby” Murphy. She leaves to cherish her loving memory Jackie Dixon, Alan Dixon, Jessica Dixon, and Maryann Parker; along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends whose lives she touched. Fannie Lee Jones lived a beautiful life, possessed a loving heart, and created a legacy that will live forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Fannie’s love, laughter, strength and unforgettable spirit will remain with us always. Forever loved, never forgotten. Visitation will be held on Friday September 18, 2026, from 10am to 11am at the Bethel Church of God and Christ, 92 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Celebration of life begins at 11am. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home, Inc. 39 So. Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. (845) 452-1840.
