Gattine-Salvato
July 6, 1942 – June 26, 2015
Frieda Gattine-Salvato, born July 6, 1942, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Wayne Nutt and Judith Clark died at age 72 at Vassar Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, on Friday, June 26, 2015. She was surrounded in her peaceful passing by her loving son and daughter, and family and friends. Frieda was a vice president at Marine Midland Bank at the World Trade Center in Manhattan and survived the first terrorist attack in 1993. Frieda was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and was crowned Miss Poughkeepsie in 1958. Her family always maintained that it was her inner beauty that helped her capture the crown.
Frieda was most proud of her work as co-owner and innkeeper at The Mill at Bloomvale Falls, Millbrook, NY where she and Don Salvato made every guest who walked through their door feel welcomed and comfortable.
Survivors include son Gregory Gattine, daughter Kara Gattine-Porres and her husband Larry Porres, her grandchildren Samantha Saldutti, Nikolas Gattine, Marley Gattine, Aden Gattine and her great granddaughter Zoe Gattine. She is also survived by her adored Goddaughter and niece Marissa Martin, loving sisters Cathy Martin, Joan Bierman, Ann Mulaney, Elissa Gee and brother Sonny Tucciarone, her dear friend and companion Charlie Watkins, her dearest friends Diane Hicks and Mary Steber, and dozens of treasured nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by first husband Thomas Gattine, and second husband Donald Salvato. Frieda will be greatly missed by her Tuesday night dinner group of friends and especially her smaller group of weekly card-playing classmates -- all of whom admired her courage, amazing strength and her love of family and friends. Calling hours will be held at Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home Inc. 39 So. Hamilton St. Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 on Monday June 29th between the hours of 6pm and 8pm, and Tuesday June 30th between the hours of 10am and 12pm.
