Obituary

Our beloved Grazia Maria Leda Morvillo passed away at home in Highland, NY on December 24, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was born Grazia Cannone on July 16, 1935 in Pisa, Italy and grew up in nearby Lucca along with her eight siblings. "Leda" -as she was affectionately called- was known for her bright smile and positive energy. Despite the many hardships of living in wartime Italy, her sisters recall that she was always able to confront any challenges with strength, determination, and resilience. These are traits Leda carried throughout her life. She was considered by so many of us as "our rock." Leda exuded enthusiasm and vitality. She was not only an impressive dancer -often spending hours on the dance floor during every social gathering- but also a gifted singer. She adored music (especially Opera, Tom Jones, and Elvis) and we would marvel at the vast repertoire of songs she had committed to memory and her ability to sing them verbatim despite her advanced years. This skill -along with her continued capacity to belt out those songs- both astounded and delighted us. She was a great lover of Nature and passionate about so many things: walking on the rail trail with her friends, riding her bicycle, traveling, camping, gardening, cooking, and entertaining. Her gardens were epic and her meals were legendary! No professional chef or baker had anything on her! Dear Leda (wife, mamma, nonna, sister, zia, friend), you were practical and wise and you taught us all so much by example. We will always remember your unwavering integrity, nurturing presence, and dedication to family and friends. You were a giver of all things good and a bringer of immense joy. Our lives are enriched and we are grateful for your beautiful heart and soul which you so freely shared. Know that your legacy lives in us and that we will love you eternally. Leda is survived by her husband of 42 years John Morvillo, her children Silvia Daole (Randy Baglieri), Michael Daole (Judy Cangiamilla), her grandchildren Remy Baglieri (Jonathan Dritto), and Wylie Paulina Baglieri.  She is also survived by her siblings Laura Sbrana (Nino Solazzi), Rita Cannone, Fernando Cannone, Mario Cannone. As well as niece Maria Canora Jones (Bruce), grandnephew Brandon Poholchuk (Sarah Ballow), grandniece Olivia Poholchuk (Colin Morse), nephew Marco Canora (Amanda Filley) and grandnieces Stella and Zadie Canora.  And is also survived by her stepdaughter Marlene Nostrand (Roland Proctor), step-grandson Christopher Nostrand (Daniela), step-great-granddaughter Luna Nostrand, and step-grandson Michael Nostrand. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private scattering of her ashes will be held. We, the family, send a heartfelt thank you to all the Hospice nurses, caregivers, and staff for their devoted care, kindness, support, and love which they gave to our Beloved and to our entire family.
