Obituary

Harold H. Elmendorf 84, of Rhinebeck, New York passed away peacefully August 12, 2021, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.  Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on October 20, 1936, he was the son of the late Harold Elmendorf and Alice Weddle Elmendorf.  He was a graduate of FDR High School, class of 1955.  After graduating he worked at the Hudson River State Hospital as a therapy aide, which he really enjoyed. In the 60s and 70s he worked in the retail industry for Wallace and Company, Lucky Platts and Flahs in Poughkeepsie and Orange County. He ended his career in the hospitality field, where he was manager of the Concord Resort in the Catskills. Harold was known to be a people's person where he could start a conversation and talk to everyone.  Harold was the Chairperson of the household and the antique department for the Dutchess County Fair for years which he really enjoyed. He was a faithful member of the Church of Messiah in Rhinebeck, NY where he was usher for Sunday masses, he also volunteered weekly at the Church Food Pantry.  Harold was a kind caring man. He loved animals and was known as The Pug Man.
