James Edward Owens, 83 of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2023.  Born on December 27, 1939, In Roseboro North Carolina, he was the son of the late Perry David Owens and Letha Boulden Melvin.  He retired from IBM in Poughkeepsie as a Maintenance Supervisor.  James enjoyed playing bingo at Interfaith Towers, washing and waxing his car, gardening, and spending time with his family.  James had a love of laughter, to make jokes on any and everyone around him.  His favorite saying was "Be Yourself".  He had a love for people around him.  He would dance or show us his crazy dance moves, for he is now dancing in Heaven.

James is survived by his children; Carolin Owens of Poughkeepsie, Teresa Diggs (Harry) of Highland, NY, Lynn Owens of Highland, NY, Tenesha Owens of Poughkeepsie, NY, Nykyra Owens of Poughkeepsie, NY, Wayne Owens of Albany, NY, Jimmy Owens,  TyQuan Owens of Poughkeepsie, NY and Tayshon Owens of Poughkeepsie, NY; His Ex-Wife Gloria Owens;  Brothers John and David Owens of Poughkeepsie, NY and 22 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son James Owens, Jr., brother Perry Owens and  sister Betsy Owens.
