Obituary

Johanna Ameila McKinney, 75 was born April 11, 1941 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. She entered into peaceful rest on December 8, 2016. She was born to the late Alma Wilson Christian and John I. Christian. Johanna attended Poughkeepsie City School District and graduated with honors from Dutchess Community College as a Registered Nurse. She also attended Marist College. Johanna was previously employed by Hudson River Psychiatric Center, for 24 years as a Registered Nurse, Dutchess County Jail, Poughkeepsie NY, Poughkeepsie City School District SFB Morse, Poughkeepsie Continuous Day Treatment Oakley Street, and Marist College Upward Bound Summer Program.

Johanna truly loved helping people, family and friends. She enjoyed attending Church, planning community events, being the chairperson for the Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Club, Inc. Lincoln-Douglass honoree luncheon, organizing the Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Club, Inc. debutante cotillion, working with young adults and spending time with her grandchildren. She participated in several committees; Dutchess County Historical Society, Cancer Society Advocate, NAACP member, Literacy Connections, Dutchess County Board of Elections, Exempt Firemen's Association Club member and chairperson of the Exempt Firemen's Association

Health and Welfare Committee. Johanna attended Christian Way Pentecostal Church.

Johanna is survived by daughters; Karlene Evans, Robin Cimorelli (Gary), Renee McKinney, Leila

Howard (Damion) and Ashanta Allen Green (Burchell), son, Marcus McRae, devoted niece Michelle

Mizell, sisters; Dr. Sylvia Mizell Watkins of Mamaroneck NY and Margereté Thompson of California, grandchildren; Takamoi Hailey (Delaney), Alexia Delcore (Ralph), Falon McKinney, Xavier Howard, Marquie McRae, Monty Robinson, Maurice Taylor (Clarissa), Adonis Stout, Alayashia Stout, Demtrie Taylor and Jolayla Hall, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her daughter Bensala Taylor, sons; Howard (Dicky) Lee Stout, Jr., and Benjamin Taylor, Jr., sister Mary V. Christian and brother Armstead (Bunny) Christian.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph J. Darrow Sr., Funeral Home, Inc, 39 South Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie NY, 845-452-1840.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Gabriel's House of Restoration Worship

Center, 249 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie NY from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM with services starting

at 11:00 AM. Overseer Lena White presiding. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, 171 Salt
