Lorraine Louise Morin, resident of Hyde Park, NY, died after a brief period of hospice care on February 3, 2017 at the age of 87. Born August 11, 1929 in Fitchburg, MA, Lorraine was always an achiever. She was a graduate of Fitchburg High School class of 1947. During high school, she apprenticed under her grandfather, clockmaker William Koski, to learn antique clock repair. She went on to repair and maintain antique clocks for the likes of Nelson Rockefeller and Franklin Roosevelt Jr! Following graduation, she enlisted in the US Navy. Stationed in Milwaukee, WI, she passed extensive exams to become the first woman admitted into an exclusive group of mechanical engineers. During this time, she was a member of Mensa and the United States Naval Choral Group- which performed at special events across the country, including the White House and United Nations. Post-military, Lorraine settles in Dutchess County, NY, where she worked for 25 years as a chemist, testing paper finishes and inks for Western Publishing. She was also employed by IBM for over 10 years until her retirement. Lorrain was passionate about wildlife, puzzles, golf, Jeopardy and Bingo. During her life, she performed innumerable acts of kindness, whether it was plumbing and electric repair for elderly neighbors, or giving her rare blood type to help save a child in NYC. It was a privilege to know such a strong, determined and intelligent woman.
Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Ludger C. Morin and Agnes Koski Morin of Fitchburgh, MA.
She is survived by her best friend and "sister-in-crime", Joan Leo of Hyde Park, NY, sisters Jacqueline (Morin) Paton of Merrimack, NH and Donna (Morin) Bernard, brother-in-law John Bernard of Vero Beach, FL, nieces Laurie (Bernard), Melissa (Bernard) and Killeen (Paton) McGowan, nephew-in-law Patrick McGowan, and her great nieces Zinnia and Acacia McGowan of Warner, NH. She will be missed by all.
There will be no calling hours or services. In the Spring, her family and friends will gather for burial. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to the Audubon Society or your local Humane Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home Inc. 39 So.
