Melvina Marie Joyner, 54, was born May 21, 1962 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY to Martha Marie Thompson and the late Melvin Thompson. She attended City of Poughkeepsie Elementary Schools. She left NY when she was 13 to reside in Burlington, VT where she completed her High School Education. She attended Burlington College where she graduated with an Associate's Degree in Sociology. Her education also included training as a CNA, working in several health care facilities. She was married to Steven Joyner; in later years, they divorced.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her children; Kyon Johnson of Oneonta, NY, Keesha Johnson, Jaruis Johnson and Mauda McClinton, all of Pougkeepsie, NY, siblings; Christopher Johnson and Sondra Ann Fletcher, step-sister Oneta Graham, aunts; Sarah Kathryn Hill and Annie Birks, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and family.

Besides her father, she was predeceased by her grandparents, Henry and Mary Ann McClinton, and her Aunt and Uncle, Mary Alice and Roosevelt Stafford.

Melvina was a kind hearted and loving person who loved sharing the word of God with whoever she encountered. She believed that she would be part of the Saints when they go Marching in God's heavenly gates.

Visitation will be Friday, March 17, 2017 from 10-11am at Church of Living God, 40 S. Bridge St, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 with a funeral service beginning at 11am.
