Mozell Marie West, 88, departed this life and gained her wings on April 5, 2019 in the comfort of her home surrounded by family.
She was born on September 3, 1930 to the late John Colden and Emma Jean Hancock-Colden in the City of Poughkeepsie. She married the late Aaron West Sr in 1950. Mozell later in life met the love of her life, the late Thurman Dancy, and shared 52 years together.
Mozell received her education in the City of Poughkeepsie School District where she became a high school graduate. She also worked for Poughkeepsie School District as a teacher assistant, bus monitor and bus driver. After 28 years of service, she retired in 1996.
Mozell was a person with a lovely spirit and beautiful smile. She loved being around family and friends, laughing, dancing and making all who encountered her smile. She will be missed for her warm and sweet presence.
She leaves to celebrate her life and fond memories two daughters; Regina Dancy-Brown of Poughkeepsie, NY and Elaine Dancy-Davis of New Haven, CT; son Shawn Dancy of Poughkeepsie, NY; grandchildren Aaron III, Naima, Chenille, Jivaro (JT), Tawana, Shaleesha, Lydia, Anondi and Jalaya; 20 great grandchildren; god daughters Judith Mizell, Felicia Edwards and Gencia Archer; special niece Pamela Lewis; special nephew Fred Coldren Jr; 3 daughters of love Connie Green, Alisa Higgs and Reah Fox; goddaughters Camelia Daniels, Judith Mizell and Gencia Archer, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mozell is predeceased by her parents, husband, loving companion; daughter Vikki West; Son Aaron West Jr.; brothers John Colden Jr and Fred Colden Sr.; twin sister O'Dell Turner and 2 special friends Elizabeth Petteway and Jean Cross.
Calling hour will be Friday, April 12, 2019 from 10:30-11:30am at Bethel Church of God in Christ, with a funeral service beginning at 11:30am. Burial to follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery.
