February 14, 1918 – November 25, 2015
Rose Marie Veronesi (Cerza) of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away peacefully on November 25th at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie, NY at the age of 97.
Rose is preceded in death by her husband Rocco Veronesi, and her brothers Patrick and Henry Cerza (spouses Antoinette and Margaret), all of Poughkeepsie. Rose is survived by, and devoted her entire life to her two sons, Angelo "Butch" Veronesi (wife Rita) and Rocco Veronesi (wife Nancy) after losing her husband at the age of 29. She is also survived by 5 Grandchildren: Mike Veronesi of Palm Harbor, FL, Chris Veronesi of Concord, NC, Matt Veronesi of Poughkeepsie, NY, Michele Zarrilli (Veronesi) of Marietta, GA and Jen Young (Veronesi), of Poughkeepsie, NY, and their spouses as well as 9 Great Grandchildren with 2 additional blessings on the way. She also is survived by her nephew Paul Cerza from Poughkeepsie, niece Christine Delisle (husband Bob) of Tiverton, RI, and sister-in-law Maryanne Darrow of Cary, NC (husband Jerry).
Rose was born on February 14, 1918 in Poughkeepsie to Thomas and Sophia Cerza. She married Rocco Veronesi on April 26 1942 in Poughkeepsie. Rose worked for Central Hudson for a number of years as well as was the lunch monitor at the Poughkeepsie Middle School. Prior to her husband's death they also owned Rocky's Market on South Clover Street in Poughkeepsie. We all remember her as a devoted mother and grandmother who was driven first and foremost by family.
The family would like to personally thank the Lutheran Care Center for their wonderful care, love and support during the past 7 years. Rose loved so many of the staff and our family sincerely appreciates all who were such a big part of her final years. We now consider many in the Lutheran family as part of our family.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 29, 2015, 2-5pm at the Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home Inc., 39 South Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. 845-452-1840. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Stanislaus Church in Pleasant Valley on Monday November 30, 2015 at 10am. Burial to follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
