Samuel (Sammy) Whitted, 78, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital of WMC on Sunday, May 1, 2016.  He was born on July 11, 1937 in Fayetteville, NC to the late Matthew (Mack) and Lorene (Avery) Whitted.  In 1953, at the age of 16, Sammy moved to Poughkeepsie, NY.  He married Geraldine (Nicholas) Whitted, who predeceased him in 2001.

Sammy was and Independent Contractor for construction, demolition and landscaping.

Sammy was survived by his children; Robert Thomas (Tonya), Samuel Thomas (Carmella) and Tina Fryar (Jonathan) all of Poughkeepsie, NY, an "honorary son/nephew"; Anthony Whitted of Fayetteville, NC, 6 grandchildren; Kent Dukim, Tasha, Kisha, Lee, Shawn, and Shawell; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Perry (Earlene), Clarence (Annette), and Peggy-Ann Whitted, all of Poughkeepsie, NY, Robert, Roy, Bobby C., Delphine, Rowena Whitted, Hesbia Mclean, all of Fayetteville, NC,  Hildred Holmes of Catskill, NY, Myrtle(James) Peterson of  Roseboro, NC, and Ruth Bunn of Durham, NC; two sister-in-laws, Anna-Mae Whitted of GA and Janet Whitted of Fayetteville, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sammy was predeceased by five brothers and a daughter-in-law Gail (Peaster) Thomas.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home Inc. 39 So. Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
