Sharneter Longford, 38, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away at home on April 5, 2026, surrounded by family and loved ones. Born on September 9, 1987, in St. Thomas, Jamaica, West Indies, to George Stewart and Ionie Palmer, Sharneter was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend known for her sharp wit and fun-loving spirit.
A high-end fashionista who enjoyed styling others' hair, Sharneter had a heart for caring for others, which led her to a career in healthcare. She was last employed at the VA Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia. A notable Jamaican track and field athlete, Sharneter represented Vere Technical High School in the 400m and 4x200m relays, setting records at events like the Western Relays. Her notable times included 53.73 in the girls' Class One 400m. Sharneter was part of the legendary Vere Tech girls' 4x100-meter relay team that set a Carnival record of 44.32 in 2004, inducted into the Penn Relays Wall of Fame in 2013.
Cooking was her true passion, and her happy place was sharing delicious meals with her loved ones. An expert in Jamaican cuisine, Sharneter wasn't afraid to try new flavors and mastered a variety of international dishes. Sharneter was a member of Faith Apostolic Ministries in Poughkeepsie and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Anton Longford; children Kellece Scarlett, 16, Tyler Deans, 7, and Aneliah Longford, 2; step-children Antori, Amir, Alexandra, and Rashawn Longford; siblings Shawnette Stewart, Morvet Forbes, Jessica Forbes, Felecia Forbes, and Jeson Forbes; niece Jesanae Forbes; uncle Carlton Sterling; mother-in-law Yvonne Johnson; grandmother Valda Palmer; aunt Mary Palmer; and many other family and friends, including Kerion Scarlett, Denease McPherson, Tashana Scarlett, Darian Waugh, Warren Waugh, Hayden Mattis, Seymour McPherson and Leiyana Mattis. Sharneter was predeceased by her mother, Ionie Palmer, and aunt Ivareitta Sterling.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 15, 2026 from 10:00am to 11:30am at the Faith Apostolic Ministries, 110 South Grand Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 with celebration of life beginning at 11:30 with Pasor Wray officiating.
