IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley A.
Riggins
March 3, 1946 – April 24, 2025
Our beloved Shirley Ann Riggins departed this life to take her eternal rest on Thursday April 24th 2025 surrounded by her loved ones. Shirley was born on March 3, 1946 in Whittakers North Carolina to the late Fannie Bunn and Fletcher Battle. The family relocated to Poughkeepsie NY in 1962 where she attended Poughkeepsie City Schools. Shirley later met and married the then love of her life, Bernard Riggins who predeceased her. To that union they had two children, Assonia and Reginald (Reggie) Riggins. Shirley worked at Hudson River and Wassaic Psychiatric Center for a total of 40 years before retiring in 2009. After retiring from the state, Shirley went on to work at Family Partnership for 3 years and then at Abilities First for 10 years as a bus monitor.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Assonia, her son, Reginald (Tammy) from Poughkeepsie NY and her stepdaughter Belinda Riggins from Bronx NY. 6 grandchildren, Omia Riggins (Jennifer) Alani Riggins of Poughkeepsie NY, Anya Riggins of Buford GA, and Arnae and Claude Walton of Bronx NY. 4 great grandchildren, Joshua, Jayden, Jeremiah and Javonni Riggins all of Poughkeepsie NY. Shirley is also survived by brother, Thomas Roy Bunn (Francis), 3 sisters, Ernestine Booker, Margaret Stroman (Albert) and Vivan Bunn Neal all of Poughkeepsie NY, her best friend Marie Davis from Poughkeepsie NY, two special cousins, Doris Murphy and Deloris Pittman (Lo), a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, brother, James Willie Bunn, and sister, Dorothy (Dot) Baker. Shirley loved all her grandchildren. She loved to laugh and could sit for hours telling stories about her life in North Carolina and making those around her laugh. She especially loved her Friday Nights and dancing with her great grands.
