Verne C. Boddy Sr, 85, of Poughkeepsie died Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.  He was born on April 28th, 1933 in Poughkeepsie, New York to the late Ida Thitchener and Grenville L. Boddy.  Verne attended City of Poughkeepsie schools.  Verne was employed by the former Western Printing Company, Hudson River Psychiatric Center, and the Mid-Hudson Civic Center.  Verne had a love for hockey and was a member of the Dutchess Youth Ice Hockey Association. Verne was enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in the Korean War from 1951-1953. After returning back to the U.S, Verne was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky with Company "A" 38th Reconnaissance Battalion.  Verne was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge and many other medals, including two unit citations for service to his country.  He also received the Purple Heart and United Nations Ribbon with 3 Battle Stars for combat action in West Chowan Valley and Khumwa Valley Campaigns in North Korea.  Verne is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #170 where he was a Color Guard Captain for eight years prior to becoming ill. On December 31, 1974 Verne married Hazel M. Cartwright who survives at home.  In addition to his wife, Verne is survived by 4 sons, Verne Boddy Jr. of New Salisbury, IN, Brian Boddy of Louisville, KY, Bruce Boddy and wife Joann of Louisville, KY, and James Parker of Middletown, NY and 3 daughters Deborah Boddy Winger and husband Don of Edgewater, FL, Susan Boddy of Louisville, KY and Michelle Parker Russell of Poughkeepsie, NY.  Verne is also survived by his brother Olin Boddy and wife Patricia of Poughkeepsie, NY.  Verne also is survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
