Yvonne Hampton Received her Angel Wings on Wednesday October 06, 2021.
Yvonne Duke Hampton was born in Poughkeepsie, New York and graduated from Roosevelt High School class of 1963.During her time in High School, Yvonne was an avid basketball player and excelled in Math. She received her associate degree from Massachusetts School of Fine Art and Design where she majored in visual arts. Yvonne met and married her former husband John Arthur Hampton and gave birth to beloved daughter Nalo Camara Hampton.
Always a trailblazer, Yvonne began her professional career as one the first Black Women in the secretarial pool at Central Hudson Electric. Realizing she enjoyed creating jewelry, Yvonne decided to focus on her passion as a designer. Her unique and brilliant talent led her to creating one of a kind silver jewelry. Once she discovered her true passion her career as a silversmith flourished in New York City. Where she modeled her jewelry professionally. In pursuit of her entrepreneurial spirit, Yvonne opened her own boutique in Brooklyn New York where she sold her hand-crafted jewelry and original fine art. She also worked successfully as an interior designer.
After returning to Poughkeepsie, Yvonne worked as an X-Ray Technician for St. Francis Hospital where she was instrumental with the Human Rights Commission of Dutchess County in demanding fair treatment for all workers of color and persisted in the hiring of Black physicians and clinical staff. After her retirement she dedicated her life to assisting victims of domestic violence, Women returning home from prison, and homeless Women who had little to no services in the community. She opened her home to all Women in need by creating a safe haven. Yvonne continually strived for social justice and set the ultimate example on how to help others within her community. Yvonne loved horticulture and enjoyed planting her peonies, and hydrangeas.
Yvonne is survived by her brother William Henry Duke Jr., former Husband John Arthur Hampton, daughter Nalo Camara Hampton, Shawn Douglas, Carol Cejas, Helen Douglas, and niece Nathalie Carril King. She is predeceased by her Father William Henry Duke Sr. and Mother Ethel Louise Duke. Yvonne also known as Sissy was affectionately loved by her cousins, Todd Douglas, Brian Douglas Lynn Douglas Gary Douglas Duran Douglas, Craig Douglas and all members of the Douglas, Hansen, and Hampton Families.
