Amanda Hollister Obituary

Amanda Rose Hollister, 27, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2017. Born October 21, 1989, she was the daughter of Peggy Butler-Valle and the late James Hollister, and the beloved granddaughter of the late Francis (Blackie) and the late Helen Butler.

Amanda attended St. Peter’s School and Our Lady of Lourdes High School. She was formally employed at the Lutheran Care Center as a nurse’s aide and was loved by all of her patients. Amanda had a heart of gold. She adored her cousin’s children and they in turn loved her.  Her purpose in life was helping others and always being a source of support. She was planning to become a paramedic, fulfilling her desire to dedicate herself to others in need. She had a special love and compassion for the elderly and was a wonderful caretaker, which was never more evident than when she cared for her ailing grandparents in their final years. Amanda loved spending time with her family and friends, especially when they are jet skiing, snowmobiling or boating.  She will always be remembered for her love of long car rides on back roads with her favorite country music blaring and her love for the Hudson River; especially Norrie Point.

In addition to her mother, Amanda is survived by her step-father, Robert Valle, Uncle and Aunt; Michael and Leslie Butler, several cousins; Katie Butler, Patrick Butler Jr., Michael Butler, Giorgina Butler, Nicole Alston and Amy Alston-Gray, sisters; Lisa Colon, Christina Hollister and Diana Hollister, several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her treasured lab “Licking Lily”.

Besides her father and grandparents, she is predeceased by her Uncle Pat Butler.
