Caval Haylett Jr. Obituary

The day after scoring 21 points in the Dutchess County Basketball Coaches Association Exceptional Senior Game, Caval G. Haylett, Jr. transitioned from this earth into eternity on Thursday, March 10, 2016.

The loving son of Caval Haylett, Sr. and Cathis Johnson, Caval was born September 9, 1997 and attended elementary, middle and high school in the Poughkeepsie City School District. He was passionate about basketball, playing three seasons with the Poughkeepsie Pioneers Varsity team and was this season’s leading scorer.  He loved his teammates and coaches and appreciated the challenges of being a student-athlete. Caval, a high school senior, anticipated attending college and had great interests from many Division III and junior colleges.

Caval was a diverse individual, who could speak on an array of topics from hip hop to humanitarian issues. His coach recalls conversations in which he expressed his desire to help people after graduation.

In addition to his athletic achievements, Caval was an honor roll student and he excelled in English Language Arts.

Caval was very much loved by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed. He was #5 on the court but will always be #1 in the hearts of family, friends and those he touched!
