David H Hutches

  David H. Hutches, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed on Friday, May 13, 2016. Born on August 23, 1962 in Bad Axe, MI to Richard and Joan Hutches. After high school in South Dakota, David enlisted in the US Navy. Upon leaving, he worked construction in Dallas, TX. He was relocated to Poughkeepsie in the late 1980’s where he was self employed as a small contractor.

  David was an active member of the Mid-Hudson Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America, where he held several committee head positions and was a long time club delegate to the six club Hudson River Valley Antique Auto Assoc. David and his 1935 Packard “Tubby” participated in many activities in the Hudson Valley, especially the Festival of Lights at Christmas, with Tubby beautifully decked out. David and Tubby have been featured in several local newspapers at various times. For the last 20 years, David would drive or fly each August, time and financing permitting, to the motorcycle rally in Sturgis, South Dakota to visit family and participate in the Rally. David had a long time association with R.M. Morse Contracting doing a variety of tasks. Over the years, David and Rich Morse developed both a good relationship and friendship.

  David is survived by two sisters; Ellen Al-Merridi of Phoenix, AZ and Susan Keffeler of Piedmont, SD, their husbands, several nieces and nephews, and good friends of a long standing; Nat and Helen Dawes of Poughkeepsie, NY.

  Final arrangements will be private at the convenience of the family. Over the years David did work at the Pine Plains Presbyterian Church and the congregation is holding a memorial service Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 2pm. The church is located at the intersection of Hollow Road and Fiddlers Bridge Road. A memorial picnic is being planned for this summer, sponsored by the car club; details to be announced.
