Evella Harrell Obituary

  Evella “Sis” Harrell took her well-deserved place in Heaven on April 13, 2016.

  Born on February 6, 1934 in Waverly, Florida she was the daughter of the late Dolly Cook and Noble Gary Sr.

  Upon being graduated from high school, Evella enlisted in the United States Army where she was stationed at Valley Forge Army Hospital working as a medical technician. She was Honorably Discharged in 1958 and married Robert H. Harrell, Sr.

  Evella worked for thirty-years (30) in health care caring for those in need. Retiring in 1999, she then took on the full time job of helping to raise numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member and past President of the American Legion #37 as well as a Sunday School Teacher at AME Zion Church.

  She was predeceased by her husband Robert H. Harrell, Sr., as well as siblings; Mabel Hamilton, Rosetta Ashe, Verdell Gary, Noble Gary, James Gary and Novella Gary.

  Evella is survived by two brothers; Roy Gary (Grace) of Connecticut, and Everett Walter (Laura) of Hurley, NY.  She is also survived by her children; Robert H. Harrell, Jr., (Lisa) of Poughkeepsie, NY, Hopeton W. Harrell (Belinda) of Poughkeepsie, NY, Thelma L. Harrell of Poughkeepsie, NY, Robyn D. Harrell of Poughkeepsie, NY, Evella D. Harrell of Corning, NY and Angela M. Hunter (Bill) of Temple, Texas, Hopeton Marsh of Poughkeepsie, NY and Pamela Scott (Frank) of Schenectady, NY, as well as,

numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and her dear friend and sister in Christ, Addie.

  Evella was devoted to her God and his son Jesus Christ. Family was everything, and she devoted her life to raising her children, along with most of the children in her community. Her door was always open.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home, Inc. 39 So. Hamilton St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Calling hours will be held on April 26, 2016 at AME Zion Church, 124 Smith Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 from 10am-11am, with a Funeral Service from 11-12pm. Repast to be discussed at the church.
