Mrs. Fannie Mae Gibson passed away of natural causes at home in Charlotte, NC on Tuesday Oct 29th 2013 at the age of 89. Fannie is predeceased by her parents; Zannie Mae Melvin, Roger Kinley and her brother; Thedie Melvin. Fannie was born in Parkersburg NC on March 15th 1924. She graduated from Sampson County High School where she was the Valedictorian of her class. She went on to relocate to Poughkeepsie, NY where she resided for over 60 years. Fannie worked for over 20 years as a Licensed Daycare provider with Dutchess County Department of Social Services. She was a dedicated member of Second Baptist Church where she held positions as a Missionary, Usher, and Crusader, and other Auxiliaries in the church. Her passion was fishing, cooking, and going to Atlantic City, most of all taking care of her family and others. Fannie is survived by her loving children, Maryann Green of Bowie Maryland, Candice Gibson of with whom she reside, of Charlotte, NC, Heather Gibson of Virginia Beach, VA and Juanita Crenshaw (deceased). Her loving grandchildren; Lawrence Crenshaw of Kingston, NY, Kecia Ivey of Bowie MD, Anthony Sean Crenshaw of Kingston NY, Fani Ingram of Upper Marlboro MD, Rhonda Crenshaw of Poughkeepsie, NY, Terrell Gibson of Charlotte, NC, Heather Haughton, of Charlotte, NC, Natasha Thomas, of Virginia Beach, VA, Nyesha Thomas, of Oakland, CA, Marquita Thomas of Philadelphia, PA Brianna Charter of Virginia Beach, VA, Kenneth Charter of Poughkeepsie, NY, Michaela Charter of Poughkeepsie, NY and (Ernestine Denise Johnson deceased).Fannie is also survived by 14 great grandchildren and 3 great -great grandchildren, 1 niece; Rhonda Melvin Richardson, of NY, NY, 1 nephew; Andre Melvin of N Y, NY, a host of cousins and a lifelong friend; Edward Parker of Poughkeepsie, NY. Visitation is 10-11AM, Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at the Second Baptist Church, 36 Vassar St. Poughkeepsie, NY. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 11AM with Rev. John Simon officiating. Entombment will be in the Community Mausoleum, Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home Inc. 39 So.
