Helen Hill

Helen M. Hill, 82 a lifelong Poughkeepsie resident, departed this life on             April 15,2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.  She was born in Sharon, CT on January 6, 1939 to the late Faybelle Cornelius Elem and Harold T. Elem, Sr.  Helen worked at Western Publishing Company for 19 years until its closing.  She then was employed at Hudson River Psychiatric Center for 20 years, retiring in 2004.  Helen loved going to bingo, playing cards, crossword puzzles and her lottery scratch offs. In 1999 she began volunteering at the “To God be the Glory” food pantry, which was later named “God’s Helping Hand”.  During the COVID pandemic she volunteered serving breakfast and lunch to children at the New Hope Center.  Helen leaves to cherish her memory her children: Wanda Hill and Margaret Hill both of Norfolk, VA, Marvin Hill, Jr, Janie McCall and Lisa McCall all of Poughkeepsie, NY, stepdaughter Wakeitha Kunze of Boston MA. Her brother, Harold T Elem, Jr. and bonus daughters, Judith West & Eula Williams, her grandchildren: Rhahime (Maisha), Unique, Ashanta (Jazzmin), Daniel (Gena), Wayne, Marvin III, Kiana, Kenesha, Lekiah and Dominick. 15 great-grand children and 2 great great-grandchildren.  Helen was predeceased by her parents, her son, Russell E. Hill. Her sisters, Emma Hogan, Ella Forte, Faybelle Johnson, Evelyn Bowman, Francena Elem and Alice Elem and her special friend Joseph McCall. Visitation is Friday, April 23, 2021, 9-11AM at the Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home Inc. 39 So Hamilton St Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
