Johnny Hughes Johnson Sr. was born on March 10, 1947, in Claxton GA, to Gussie Mae Johnson and Moses Johnson. After a battle with serval health conditions, on October 20, 2023, in Newburgh, NY he made his transition to be with his heavenly father.
Johnny graduated from Tattnal High School in Claxton GA in 1965 and shortly after was drafted into the United States Military where he served his Country in the Vietnam War until 1975. He then moved to New York where he continued to serve his community working for Castle Point VA as a medical appointment driver.
Johnny was a loving father and grandfather spending time in his later years with family and friends. He enjoyed spending hours on his phone, making jokes, and watching old Western movies. Johhny leaves behind his significant other Sylvia Wilson-Johnson, children Kendal Johnson, Lola Johnson-Ihura (Isaac Kamau), Natasha Johnson, Alton Johnson and Johnny Johnson Jr;(predeceased by their mother Queen Carey) grandchildren Darrell, Ceanne, Tyler, Natiyah, Ja’Nyous, Royalty, Kayden, Shakari, Jayvion and Charrae. Johnny is also survived by his loving sister Betty Smith, Willie Mae Wilson (Moses Willison), Ruby Dell Slater. A host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Besides his parents, and son Darrell Johnson he was predeceased by his brothers Sylvester and Larry Johnson and sister Dorothy Butler (Albert Butler).
Visitation will be held on Friday November 3, 2023, from 11am to 12 noon with a celebration of life beginning at Noon at the Beth-El Church of God in Christ, 91 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 with Superintendent Dwight Hunt Officiation.
