Joseph Walsh Obituary

Joseph L. Walsh was born at home in Poughkeepsie, NY On Oct 11th, 1931. He died February 4th 2022, Pine Plains, NY.

He graduated high school in 1951 and served in the Air force 1952 to 1956. Went to bootcamp at Sampson Air Force base, trained and worked at Nellis AFB as an Electrical Power Production Repairman. Stationed at Satozaki AFB on Kyushu Japan where he developed his love for Japanese culture.

He married Catherine Mary Surico Jan 1, 1957 in Kingston, NY.  Divorced 1974 remaining good friends and great parents.

Joined the Telephone company after the service.   He retired the day his first grandchild was born in 1991 after 37 years with the telephone company.

He is survived his brother Vincent and wife Theresa Walsh of Hyde Park, his two children Debora J. Peet of Hyde Park NY, Kevin Walsh and wife Vivian of Pine Plains NY, grandson Kyle Walsh (Tyler Mikels) of Utica NY, granddaughter Paige Walsh of Pine Plains NY and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Dorothy Walsh, and siblings : Robert, John, Dorothy Ann, Frank, and Tom.

He enjoyed traveling the country in his motorhome and taking European trips, camping and music festivals with his family were a favorite pastime.  His greatest love of all was for his grandchildren. He enjoyed clock repair to keep them ticking and spent countless hours working on them with his daughter Debora.  Most of all, he loved large family gatherings where he could celebrate past memories.  He never missed an opportunity to share libations with friends, he loved his sake and made a tradition of sharing with his family.  He had a great love of the road, especially day trips without a destination.  He was known to say “let’s see where this road leads”.  He was a storyteller, he loved people and was always glad to see someone he hadn’t seen in a while to catch up with them.  For Joe, life was too short, there was never enough time to do all the things he wanted to do.  Even in his last days he had a wish list, he was known to say too bad we couldn’t have done this or that.  He said he had a good life.
