Kathy Bennett, age 57 transition peacefully from Labor to Rest in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family on May 22, 2022. Kathy was born on October 26, 1964, to the late Maggie Francis Usher and the late Robert “Duck” Johnson. She was blessed to have another father who raised her the late Junious “Buddy” Lyons. Mrs. Bennett received her education in the City of Poughkeepsie School District where she obtained her high school diploma in 1983. She married the love of her life Stephan Bennett on August 1, 1992. They formed a Unity of Love for 31 years. Kathy worked as a direct support professional assisting people with mental and physical disabilities with gaining independence with their daily life skills at Abilities First Inc. for 9 years until she became ill.
Our beloved Kathy will be remembered for her sweet, soft spoken humble spirit that left everyone that she encountered with a warm, loving positive feeling. Left to cherish fond memories is her loving husband Stephan Bennett at home, her four daughters Precious Joshua, Lahiqueeniha Griffin, Shaqueeniha Griffin, Stef’vontia Bennett and one son Stephan Bennett. Seven grandchildren, Ma’Kiyah Rodriguez, Na’Riah Joshua, Zalif Joshua, Mi’Queen Johnson, Cartier Joshua, Ni’sai Daniels, and Ni’lsa Daniels and one great granddaughter Melanie Rodriguez-Baumann; four sisters Antonia “Tonia” Lyons, Sharon “Shell” Cherry, Shalece Gooden (Roy), Meredith Cave and one brother Shawn Lyons (Kimberly). Also left to cherish memories is her godson Rashod Jackson, five special friends Diana Robinson, Shawn Dawson, Melvina Croner, Alberta Riley and Patricia Coleman, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Kathy was predeceased by her beloved mother Maggie Usher, her fathers Robert Johnson, Junious Lyons and her sister Angela Usher-Sampson and her grandparents.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday May28, 2022 from 1pm to 3pm at the Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home, Inc. 39 So. Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. (845)452-1840.
