To Eileen, John and Russell, I would like to express my sincere condolences for the loss of your partner and dad. I moved next door to Larry about 3 years ago. We would chat in the yard or front porch and he would speak fondly of you all. A few months ago he told me that he was starting to get forgetful and that was troubling to him. It led us to a conversation about God and the after life. We compared notes on how it was for both of us to have been raised as Roman Catholic. We spoke about the differences between belonging to a religion and having a personal relationship with God through faith in the finished work of the cross of Jesus Christ our Savior. I shared my favorite scripture with Larry: 1 John 5:13; “these things have I written unto you that you may know that you have eternal life “. Larry wanted to be sure of eternal life, so he prayed with me and another neighbor to ask Jesus Christ to forgive him for all of his sin and he thanked Jesus for taking his sin on the cross and dying for him so that he could be forgiven. So while we mourn our loss, we can rejoice that he is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the place Jesus said He would prepare for those who believe and trust in for eternal life. It’s been my privilege to know Larry and to share my faith with him. I pray that you all will find the assurance and peace that Jesus offers all of us.

Eileen, John and Russell, please accept my condolences on the loss of your partner and your dad. Although I only knew Larry through the nursing home, he sounds like the type of person I would have enjoyed knowing. He certainly led a full life. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
