Laurence Healy

Laurence “Larry” Healy, 84 of New Paltz, NY passed away on Friday November 5, 2021, at The Grand at River Valley after a brief illness.  Born on January 9, 1937, in Attica, NY he was the son of the late Fred and Arlene Darling Healy.  Larry served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1958.  He was a Military Police Officer.  Larry owned and operated Healy Construction for over 50 years.  Larry built the first passive solar house in Deming N.M. where he lived for a period of time.  He built several others and was featured in the local newspapers at the time.  He gave many seminars on passive solar homes.  Larry had many activities he enjoyed.  He was one of the original skydivers and was featured in a book highlighting his experiences.  He enjoyed parasailing, raced snowmobiles and motorcycles and was even a card dealer in Las Vegas and Colorado.  Larry was an avid skier.  He was an ASIA certified ski instructor and a member of the Hudson Valley Ski Club. Larry skied many mountains in the Northeast and he and Eileen spent a month or more each year for several years, skiing in Colorado and Utah. 

  Survivors include his significant other of 27 Years Eileen Faulkner of New Paltz, NY., sons John Healy of Hyde Park, NY., and Russell Healy (Laura) of Millbrook, NY., his sister Patty Embt of Attica, NY., granddaughter Jade Healy and ex-wife Ellen Healy.  He was predeceased by his brother Michael Healy and sister Mary Bryant. 

  Visitation will be held on Friday November 12, 2021, from 4pm to 7pm at Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home, Inc. 39 So. Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
