Marion Elizabeth Johnson-Stanton passed on to her eternal life peacefully at home with family and friends Sunday, May 30, 2021. Born September 14, 1927, Marion was the second child of eighteen, born to Clara I. and Thomas Malcolm (Mack) Johnson in Poughkeepsie NY.
She was a devoted, loving, and caring wife and mother and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church since childhood and a committed servant of the Lord. Marion worked over 30 years as a nurse at Vassar Brothers Hospital; was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Women's Choir of Ebenezer Baptist Church and ran the church's Clothing Bank.
Marion is survived by her children, William A. Stanton of Poughkeepsie, Joyce E. Stanton of Poughkeepsie Karen Y. Stanton-Ashe (Elvis) of Kingston NY; grandchildren, William Bunn Jr (Carmita), Shameeka Ashe-Gerard (Jason), Tia Ashe, Jamar Ashe, Lataye Ashe-Revange (Gerrard) and Aki Ashe, a host of great grandchildren, a great, great grandchild, many nieces, nephews and cousins and her aunt, Elizabeth (Bessie) Riley. Other survivors include siblings, Janette Parker, Arthur Johnson, Ralph Johnson, Larry Johnson, Donald Johnson, Clifton Johnson, Lorraine Yager, Gail Johnson, Margo Monroe, Carlton Johnson, and Kay Littlejohn. Marion was predeceased by her husband, William A. Stanton; parents, sisters, Izetta Bowman, Betty Evans, and Deborah Doughtery; brothers, William Johnson, Robert Johnson, and Leonard (Noble) Johnson. The family would like to thank Home Health Companion of Kingston and Hudson Valley Hospice for their loving support.
Services will be held Thursday, June 3, 2021, at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, 15 Smith Street in Poughkeepsie. The repose will be 9:30-10:30am, funeral service 10:30am, with procession to follow to Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
