Patricia Kennedy Obituary

Patricia Tobin Kennedy, 77, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away on May 12, 2014 at Mid Hudson Regional Medical Center of Westchester Medical Center. Patricia was the daughter of the late Loretto Martin and William G. (Leonard) Tobin. She was educated at St. Peter's and other local elementary schools. She attended Mt. St. Mary's Academy and a certificate program through the Catholic Archdiocese of NY, on Spiritual Development a graduate program with credit given through Empire State College for undergraduate credit. She also received a Nutrition Education certificate from Cornell University extension program and a NYS certificate as a Home Health Aide. Just out of school, she was a NY Telephone Co. Operator, then Asst. Chief Operator at the Lucky Platt & Co switch board, which doubled and sales, and later worked for Delaval Separator. Over the years, she was a member of the Sodality of Our Lady, served as president for a year; joined Beta Sigma Phi, business and professional women's charitable sorority, served as city council vice president of the Five Chapters and as president of Beta Eta Chapter. She joined the Mid Hudson Catholic Club serving as vice president with direct responsibility for fund raising and implementation of Catholic Action Activities, e.g. events for children at the Cardinal Hayes Home. On Jan 22, 1966 Patricia married J. Peter Kennedy Sr. at Old St. Peter's Church. Spending 13 years at home with her children, she went back to work in 1979, though always her first vocation was motherhood and nothing she did was as gratifying. In 1980 she joined Child Find Inc., serving as first vice president, responsible for the first Public Service Announcement, and later served as a councilor to parents of missing children. In the 2000 Primary, she had the privilege of being on the Primary Ballot to be a delegate for Ambassador Alan Keyes, Ph.D. who running for president. After retiring from her second great love, Home Health Care, she spent additional time writing letters to the editor and whoever, in defense of God, Church, our Constitution, and especially life issues. She often hounded elected officials in the defense of life and the Constitutional Republic. Patricia is survived by her son; James Patrick Kennedy, a niece; Carla Lisa Rovere Kistner (Bernie), nephews; Christopher Joseph Rovere (Kayleen), and John Patrick Rovere (Meg), 2 much beloved grand nieces; Courtney Erin Rovere and Ariel Rachel Rovere, many beloved cousins; Bobby Cady, and all her friends. Patricia was predeceased by a son; Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. at the age of 9, 2 sisters; Mary Delores Tobin and Loretto Josepha Tobin Rovere, and a niece Moira Loretto Rovere Bayer. A Requiem Mass offered by Father James McLucas on Friday, May 16, 2014, 11AM at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish 255 Hudson View Dr. Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Interment to follow in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery Salt Point Turnpike, Poughkeepsie. Arrangements are entrusted to the Joseph J.
