Roderick Eddison Alvarez

Roderick Eddison Alvarez, 76 years old of Columbus Ohio, passed away quietly on September 7, 2022 in Poughkeepsie, NY.  Roderick, fondly referred to as Rod, or Eddie was born on December 31, 1945 in Belize City.  He migrated to the U.S.A. in the 1960’s, he spent some of his life in Los Angeles California.  Rod was married to Valda Wade Alvarez who passed away.  He later married Ms. Bonnie Chatman of Columbus Ohio.  Rods Primary interest was his family and friends.  He had a passion for music and dancing.  He enjoyed playing soccer as a young boy with his friends.  Rod worked as a Nursing Assistant/PCT for 30 years at Laurel of Walden Park Nursing Home in Columbus Ohio. 

  He is survived by his children Paul Alvarez of Belize City, Jacqueline Alvarez of California and husband Kevin Trapp, Rommel Rodriguez and wife Shizzon of Wisconsin, Dewaine Alvarez and his wife, Floyd Crawford, Eddy Tyrone Alvarez, and wife April of North Carolina.  Sibings Sylvia Flowers and Joseph Alvarez of Belize City, Raymond Smith and wife Carla of Los Angeles, California, Gilda Smith of Poughkeepsie, NY.  Two stepchildren Tonya and Junior of Houston Texas. Best friends Windell Slusher and Gloria Grantham of Columbus Ohio along with several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was predeceased in death by his parents Sybil and Roderick E. Alvarez, his sons Roderick E. Alvarez Jr, of Belize City, and Mark Alvarez of Los Angeles, California. Sister Myma Jean Tillett, Lincoln Alvarez, Robert C. Smith and both wives Valda Wade Alvarez and Bonnie Chatman Alvarez. 

  Visitation will be held from 9:30am to 10:15am at Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home, Inc. 39 So. Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. (845)452-1840.  Funeral services will begin at 10:15am with Pastor Daymon Sutton officiating, interment to follow at Union Cemetery in Hyde Park, NY.
