Nathaniel Vaughan, 90, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on November 17, 2020 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

Nathaniel was born to Willie and Madie Vaughan on June 29th, 1930 in Woodland, N.C.

In 1956 he met and married his wife Laura who preceded him in 2015. Nathaniel was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Poughkeepsie, NY and worked for the Hudson River State Hospital Psychiatric Center for 25 years.

Nathaniel (Pop) is survived by his children Kevin A. and Denise Vaughan; Hope and Charles Warner; Meloney and Andre Richards.

Grandchildren: Katrina Vaughan-Santiago, Kevin A. Vaughan II, Keturah M. Richards, Jonathan C. Richards, Aaron Warner, and Jayden D. Warner.

Great grands: Katrina Santiago, Milegros Santiago, Diana Santiago and a host of nieces and nephews and close friends.

Nathaniel (Nate), (Tan), is survived by his brother Wayman (Wayne) Vaughan, and his sisters Geraldine Mitchell and Joyce Anderson, and preceded by his brother Novell Vaughan, and his sisters Evelyn Johnson and Willie Scott.

Mr. Nate as he was lovingly called, had an extended family that included the caring staff and residents of the Vassar Warner Home where he shared meals, time and priceless memories for several years.

Our dad enjoyed strawberry ice-cream, cakes and pastries, tea with milk and plenty of sugar. He enjoyed oldies music and sometimes naming that tune when riding in the car. He was quiet, handsome, and always responded with the softness of a southern gentleman. POP never complained, things were always good!

Visitation is Tuesday, November 24, 2020 from 10am to 11am at Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home, Inc.  39 So. Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.  (845)452-1840.  Entombment will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery in the Family Mausoleum.   To send online condolences please visit our website at
